CONNECTIONS: Open to young people aged 13 to 19 years.
An Australian Government Initiative, funded through DEEWR (Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations), Connections helps young people get back in touch with their learning and their future.
Broken Hill Skills Centre staff work one-on-one with each young person, in a comfortable and relaxed setting, where needs are assessed. The goal is to help each participant to:
- identify their strengths, goals and career options
- find ways to overcome any barriers to learning
- get involved in flexible and accredited education or training options
- increase their life and employability skills, including areas such as budgeting, socialisation, health and nutrition.
Connections is open to young people who have been out of mainstream schooling for at least three consecutive months.
Participants must also:
- be Australian citizens or permanent residents
- face substantial barriers to re-engaging with education
- not have completed year 12 or a vocational equivalent
- not be in training or full-time employment
- need intensive, individualised assistance
- need a supportive and flexible environment to re-engage with study, training or work.
Connections can sometimes help young people who do not fit the above criteria.
Great vocational training and fun educational learning opportunities are available. For further information, contact Dhyani, Ruth or Pam at
